I tried opening a beer with that hook knife. Was a no-go. I'm going to sell it and switch to a larger solid hook knife with a better grip and a glass breaker.
I have no issues sharpening all of our cutlery around the house and even sharpen drill bits so keeping my safety tools ready for use is no big deal.
The big deal is to keep them handy and not just for my own safety as many have learned the hard way.

Finally got a picture of my hook knife and holster on a training harness. My instructor said it looked good. Mount it up by the shoulders for scooter towing (since the hip points are used for lower bridle attachment) and then when truck towing, mount it down low since the shoulder points are used for the bridle.

Sweeeet!!!! Looks good to me.
I like the bent gate bar, as Marc suggested that should make release force many times less than tow force, if not nearly independant of tow line force.

As in most cases, the simplest designs work best.
