History of The National Transportation Safety Board
Because the NTSB has no formal authority to regulate the transportation industry, our effectiveness depends on our reputation for conducting thorough, accurate, and independent investigations and for producing timely, well-considered recommendations to enhance transportation safety.

Starting Out

On the plus side, I never have to worry about unexpected engine failure. Many MANY fatals in general aviation involve engine failure soon after takeoff.

Moderate slope take off ,and no wind +drag chute bad landing
Comet - 2014/02/09 22:34:13 UTC

The glider probably rolled to the left on flare because the stupid drag chute is out to the left and pulling you to that side.

I took a number of tandem refresher flights before re-soloing a falcon on landing gear and then a couple of flights on my sport 2, all good wheel landings til the last flight.

It took 5 surgeries, lots of titanium, and 2+ years of physical therapy, but I have made a fairly decent recovery.

Orion Price - 2014/03/07

Is it possible to remove Tad Eareckson's postulation from your server? He is a generally discounted crackpot whom doesn't advance much of anything.

He threatened to advise the FAA about our dangerous activities. After much discouragement from the USHPA, he still sent it in.

I have reason to believe he is not an engineer; as his designs are unsafe, untested, and his method is against our purpose of safe free flight.

drogue chute lesson
NMERider - 2008/12/17 18:19:43 UTC

I had a long conversation with Greblo yesterday about the drogue chute topic and he loaned me one of his to try out. One additional pointer that he passed along to me was to do every other landing with the drogue chute whether you need it or not, in order to be trained and ready to use it when it's really needed.

Doh! My worst landing ever, caught on tape.
Red Howard - 2014/03/24 03:45:13 UTC

You can use an old Frisbee (which is classic) for a landing spot. It should be located in the middle of the field, or maybe slightly toward the downwind end of the field for single-surfaced gliders, and slightly toward the upwind end of the field for double-surfaced gliders.

Textbook natural selection.

The Jack Show has been going for four days shy of five years now and in that time anybody who's shown any flickers of intelligence, competence, honesty, character, decency has been fairly quickly eliminated from the population. So it doesn't take too long before all you have left is a deep and vast slick of pureed, homogenized, stinking, toxic, self congratulatory ooze.

This ain't rocket science.
