The cart has so many advantages for launch. But we do mix it up when the wind is less consistent.

I decided to go upright. This is where things started going really bad really fast.
You can tow up behind an ultralight airplane, or behind a boat or a car, or by being pulled by a stationary winch. Each method has its own specific techniques - worked out from years of experience to ensure the highest level of safety.
There is no inherent reason for hang gliding to be any more dangerous than other forms of aviation, and there is one inherent reason why it can be safer. That reason is that in hang gliding, the pilot need depend only on his or her own decision making to control his or her level of safety. In other forms of aviation, you must always depend, to some degree, on other people. From a statistical standpoint, hang gliding is more dangerous than, for example, traveling by commercial airline. The reason for this is that the operation of commercial airlines is very tightly regulated by the government in order to ensure the safety of the public. Hang gliding is largely unregulated, so safety is up to each individual.

Perhaps someone can invent some reusable wheels that drop off after launch?

The flight park procedures here at Quest Air are the result of years of evolutionary pressures and experience that provide the focus on safety.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science. - Charles Darwin
The wise are instructed by reason, average minds by experience, the stupid by necessity and the brute by instinct. - Marcus Tullius Cicero

Thanks for the update Jeff.
Good to have a clear picture of things.
I'm going to save the rant... it'll do no good.
We've been towing for years. We worked this shit out a long time ago.
You either follow the well worn path or you take your own.

It was already worked out by the time I arrived.

Getting the feel of your glider without being hooked in is a great experience.
