Bent keel?!
Mike Harper - 2014/05/24 15:58:34 UTC

I have seen a keel break on a good landing. It was a nice flare but then the glider came down keel first. I think that's why mfg keep the keel so short to avoid hitting them on landings. I've often thought when setting up my glider, if the keel were a foot longer these wingtips wouldn't be in the dirt.

Weak links were going like hotcakes so we doubled them up. On my Atos, I had my only break right as one hand let go of the cart so I held on like crazy to the other side and skidded to a stop.

Platform Launching (PL) Draft suggestions needed
Bill Cummings - 2014/06/01 18:50:41 UTC

I see accelerating beyond ideal launch speed not to be a good idea because the winch may, for many different reasons, bind up or even "nest", and not pay-out line. If this were to happen, and you launched late, at a higher airspeed, maintaining control behind the tow vehicle will be less likely. At this point, I would pump the bar out enough to break the weak link, round-off and land.

Broken Weak Link! Not really and issue IF??
Socrates Zayas - 2007/11/14 18:30:49 UTC

The easy fix and "THE DANGEROUS" is use a double weak link! Not recommended and used variously by some pilots I will not mention. This can lead to dangerous situations which is why you have a weak link to begin with.

Very first appearance on The Davis Rooney Show.

Major Kudos to Steve for unearthing this gem.

I'm not sure I understand this or where it's coming from.
It had everything to do with rotor.

Maybe the the greatest benefit resulting from this incident being caught on video is the opportunity for this pilot to see how appallingly he lets the bar out immediately after breaking ground. Should tow pressure drop at that point it could be fatal.
